When an employee can’t get to work on time
CARMandP replied to Joe Marconi's topic in Human Resources, Employees
It would depend upon what motivates the tech. How about cutting pay or charging when late? You are right that it will kill morale if one tech has one set of rules and the rest have another set. That killed the morale where I use to work. It wasn't the different rules, it was the politics of one tech getting all the gravy and the rest having to follow up after him and fix his crap. It's still that way 2 yrs after I left. -

Holding a Car Care Event?
CARMandP replied to Joe Marconi's topic in Marketing, Advertising, & Promoting
I am planning to run one the end of the month of April to promote a few ideas to my customers as well as just give back to the ones that have been so good to me over the years. -
Do any of you guys have or promote a particular synthetic oil or do you use a particular brand of oil? If you do why do you use that brand?

Honda Odyssey vs. the Insurance Company!
CARMandP replied to Joe Marconi's topic in Customer Experience & Reviews
Joe, not that this will help but in all my years at Honda, I only saw one Odyssey with a blown head gasket and that was due to a head bolt that had broken off.... -
Is Flat Rate the Future for Shops?
CARMandP replied to Joe Marconi's topic in Accounting, Profitability, & Payroll
Joe, That is the way the dealership that I worked at was and that is the main reason that I left. When the work was there, the required 45 hr week wasn't bad when you were turning 50-75 hrs a week. I turned as many as 130 hrs one week (in six days) and set the shop record for the most hours turned in one week. That was a great plan when there was work but like you said, if there wasn't any work, there was no base pay so it wasn't uncommon to turn 30-40 and still have to be there the full week and a sat every 3 weeks. I always wondered how "legal" it was to require us to work hours that we were not paid for. Since I am the only tech here now I pay myself flat rate because its the easiest for me to figure for now. When I get big enough to need more help, I will have to change that. -

well so far impressed with the service. They got my connector and tested it and was amazed that I was correct. It was not working and it had their engineering department stumped. That made me feel better that I wasn't the one that was crazy. They made me a new connector and tested it before they shipped it to make sure that it was working. I will give more info as I get the chance to test the new one. -

What's Your Favorite Scan Tool

You can buy the generic tool for around $220 but it won't have any of the advanced "enhanced" features as they call them. If you look on AutoEnginuity's site it will explain the different options that they offer. I decided to buy it straight from them instead of from someone on ebay and since mine has had problems I am glad I bought it straight from them. My machine works well for domestic applications but for some reason I have not been able to make it work on any Asian cars at all. I have been dealing with them for about a month now and finally sent my adapter back to them because I was doing everything right. They figure I have a hardware problem. I will let you know more when I get it working properly. -
I personally charge the same amount whether I use shims or not. I also charge the same amount if I am doing a 2 wheel or a 4 wheel alignment. 95% of the alignments "set the toe and let it go" so for the few that require a little more work, I just "eat" My alignment machine has made me a lot of money for what I invested in the Hunter machine. I have less than $200 in my machine

Welcome to the site. Good to have you here. I look forward to getting to learn from you.

Welcome to the site. Good to have you here. I am looking forward to hearing what you have to say and hopefully, have something to offer to you. I don't do any advertising at all myself. I have tried and it was a waste of money for me. All my business is direct referral. Of course, its only me and an afternoon helper so I can't take any more work than what I have.

I'm back from Vacation! Did you miss me?
CARMandP replied to Joe Marconi's topic in Non-Automotive Discussions
You were gone? Oh, by the way, YOU SUCK. At least its about 60 degrees here today so its getting warmer. J/K. Glad you had a great time. Its always good to get away! Looking forward to our trip to Gatlinburg, TN in August. We go there about once a year since we only live about 4 hrs from there and my Father-in-law has time share's there which pay for our housing. -

Is there a movement to tarnish Japanese carmakers?
CARMandP replied to autoguy's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I would be glad to state the conspiracy theory here. Let's see. Both Nissan and Toyota are in direct competition with the US government that now owns Government Motors. The government is bashing their own competition which is very hypocritical in my opinion. Did we hear the big news the GM is having a recall on over 1 million of their cars. Have we heard the same overkill? CNN doesn't even have this story on their website... MSNBC does as does Fox News but why can't I find it on the Communist News Network? I average about 10-12 between my two bay garage. One side is the lift and the other side is my alignment machine. Of course, its just me so I am doing everything from answering the phone to talking to customers plus running for parts and everything else so I am very happy with that amount. Keeps my bills paid for now.

Heck no. I hope it snows down there. LOL. Make sure you take the cold with you because we are freezing here in TN. Have a wonderful time and enjoy your time.
