The Health Bill Passes the House
autoguy replied to Joe Marconi's topic in Non-Automotive Discussions
It's BS. They're shoving this thing down everyone's throats!!! Below are some bullet points I just read online: The key questions you need answered on health care: Who's covered? About 96% of U.S. citizens and legal residents younger than 65. Cost? $894 billion to $1.2 trillion over 10 years. Who pays? Higher income taxes on couples earning more than $1 million a year and singles making more than $500,000, Medicare and Medicaid cuts and savings. Must have? Those earning above $18,700 (couples) or $9,350 (singles) must have insurance or pay a 2.5% penalty on income. Any help? Individuals and families with annual income up to 400% of poverty level, or $88,000 for a family of four, would get sliding-scale subsidies starting in 2013. If I have insurance? Private, employer-subsidized plans remain the backbone of the system. Mandates on employers to provide coverage will encourage them to keep providing it. Who can be denied? Insurance companies cannot deny coverage or charge higher premiums based on preexisting conditions. No higher premiums for gender. Limits on higher premiums based on age. Children could stay on parents' plans until age 27. Any new options? Beginning in 2013, a new Health Insurance Exchange would be open to individuals with no or inadequate coverage and to small employers. A new government-run plan would be set up and run by the Health and Human Services secretary, offering levels of benefits covering 70% to 95% of health care expenses. Help for seniors? The bill closes Medicare's prescription drug "doughnut hole” - a $3,454 coverage gap under which seniors have to pay for medicine totally from their own pocket. Business impact? Employers with payrolls above $500,000 must provide insurance for employees or pay a penalty. Small-business impact? Those with 10 or fewer workers would get tax credits to help them provide coverage. -

Ever Since You Changed My Oil....
autoguy replied to Joe Marconi's topic in Customer Experience & Reviews
An angry customer will tell 10 people....that's the rule I think, a happy customer will tell 2. What's the winshield worth to you? I probably would not have fixed it for a customer that I think will give me a headache every time. But if it is someone local and I feel she will return.. I might have had it done. I think you need to weigh it out. I'm curious what you did. -

Russian Professor Predicts End of U.S.
autoguy replied to xrac's topic in Non-Automotive Discussions
That's insane...he even says: Mr. Panarin posits, in brief, that mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war next fall and the collapse of the dollar. Around the end of June 2010, or early July, he says, the U.S. will break into six pieces -- with Alaska reverting to Russian control. New map -
Is there a huge calling for Nitrogen in tires?

Cash for Clunkers Law
autoguy replied to autoguy's topic in Shop Insurance, Certifications, Laws, Legal
Well siad, a law for the big boys. We need more legislation/support for small businesses. It's bullshit!!! -

What do you guys think about this Cash for clunkers Law? Some articles to read about it: http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/artic...SbAMcv4EqdBQjiw http://www.carnewsreport.org/ In a nutshell, if you are not familiar with this: Under the House bill, car owners could get a voucher worth $3,500 if they traded in a vehicle getting 18 miles per gallon or less for one getting at least 22 miles per gallon. The value of the voucher would grow to $4,500 if the mileage of the new car is 10 mpg higher than the old vehicle. The miles per gallon figures are listed on the window sticker. Owners of sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks or minivans that get 18 mpg or less could receive a voucher for $3,500 if their new truck or SUV is at least 2 mpg higher than their old vehicle. The voucher would increase to $4,500 if the mileage of the new truck or SUV is at least 5 mpg higher than the older vehicle. Consumers could also receive vouchers for leased vehicles.

According to the Frankston Leader, a mystery man in Australia has been putting up funny road signs that have some local residents laughing, and others fuming mad. The first three photos in the gallery below show you just how real these fake signs appear, and while two are rather innocent, the first image in the gallery shows a sign of two people copulating in the horizontal position with the word "HUMP" below. It was placed next to a speed bump. The source, of course, quotes a 63-year-old Australian woman who calls the sign "blasphemous" and "obscene". The local government is also not amused, but whoever is putting up these signs usually takes them down before the authorities can do it themselves. Thanks for the tip, Scott!
