  1. It is hard to enjoy the Saturday without being able to read what Gonzo has written! At least business was a little better this week.

Sorry about that... a week long commitment with MACS Took up all my spare time.

Yes Gonzo. Saturday without Gonzo is like a boat without a rudder.

  2. I know what you mean. I had an old guy in his 80's just leave my shop. His health is bad and when he don't come in here anymore I will miss him. When I first met him 10+ years ago I didn't like him. He was a pushy salesman and a time waster. Now he is my friend.
  3. Depends upon the warranty company and whether it is named coverage or not. We have one (Alpha Warranty) that wants to send you cheap parts they find on line. If a company sends out an adjuster remember they are looking for a reason to deny the claim. A good Warranty company like AUL or GE or Toyota does mean $$$$.
  4. How many bays in your shop, how many lifts, and how many techs?
  5. I love the special and will use it. Thanks for sharing it with us.
  6. I thought it was Fix Or Repair Daily!
  7. Our extinguishers are checked annual and recharged as needed.
  8. That phone call was not fun.

      Tires Too

Same here in NH. We basically lost 3 days of business with the store last week and I'm sending the guys home at noon today because of another big storm. Gotta love New England weather.

  10. Gonzo, one day a customer came to pick up their car and we were billing them out when we looked out to see the car that drove in, not the car we worked on on fire. One of my guys grabbed an extinguisher, opened the hood, and put the fire out. The car was totaled and the insurance company tried to blame us. We never touched the car. They later called to see if there were storage fees which we didn't charge but I told them we would like to get reimbursed for having the fire extinguisher recharged. They didn't want to pay the $30 bucks. I told them if they didn't want to pay for the extinguisher they could pay two weeks storage fees. They sent me $30.
  11. Are you able to get most of your Euro parts through them?
  12. Thanks! Being in a small midwestern town many Euro parts have to be ordered and take 2-3 days anyway. I will check them out.
  13. Here is my situation. Our local euro dealer (Mercedes, BMW, Audi, VW, Porsche) is very hard to deal with, does nit deliver and only gives us a 10%!discount if list. Are there any sources you use that would give us better pricing on dealer kinky type parts. We do use World Pak.
  14. Or "just change my oil and don't look at anything else". I have had that. They are great prospective customers aren't they.
  15. I get people who name such ridiculous price on tires I know they just made up a price they wanted to pay.
  16. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2927348/Obamacare-program-costs-50-000-American-gets-health-insurance-says-bombshell-budget-report.html
  17. I know too many people to discount my friends much. They only people who get serious discounts are my kids. I just make sure that I cover costs on their stuff. Hey! My son and his wife make more money than I do.
  18. I pay the techs in work completed during the week. Sometimes that is not good for the tech and sometimes it works to their advantage. We do not pay by the hour or flat rate but on parts and labor commission. For example work that carries over to the next week can create a windfall.
  19. When you drive a 30 year old truck everyone knew it was you.
  20. Free tire rotation with an oil change. It attracts a customer interested in maintaining their vehicle and gives you a chance to look at the tires, brakes, and suspension.
  21. I will I will give them a call.
  22. What does that one sell for and is RSC the best source?
  23. Who died before they collected Social Security? THE ONLY THING WRONG WITH THE GOVERNMENT'S CALCULATION OF AVAILABLE SOCIAL SECURITY IS THEY FORGOT TO FIGURE IN THE PEOPLE WHO DIED BEFORE THEY EVER COLLECTED A SOCIAL SECURITY CHECK!!! WHERE DID THAT MONEY GO? Remember, not only did you and I contribute to Social Security but your employer did, too. It totaled 15% of your income before taxes. If you averaged only $30K over your working life, that's close to $220,500. Read that again. Did you see where the Government paid in one single penny? We are talking about the money you and your employer put in a Government bank to insure you and Me that we would have a retirement check from the money we put in, not the Government. Now they are calling the money we put in an entitlement when we reach the age to take it back. If you calculate the future invested value of $4,500 per year (yours & your employer's contribution) at a simple 5% interest (less than what the Government pays on the money that it borrows). After 49 years of working you'd have $892,919.98. If you took out only 3% per year, you'd receive $26,787.60 per year and it would last better than 30 years (until you're 95 if you retire at age 65) and that's with no interest paid on that final amount on deposit! If you bought an annuity and it paid 4% per year, you'd have a lifetime income of $2,976.40 per month. THE FOLKS IN WASHINGTON HAVE PULLED OFF A BIGGER PONZI SCHEME THAN BERNIE MADOFF EVER DID. Entitlement my foot; I paid cash for my social security insurance! Just because they borrowed the money for other government spending, doesn't make my benefits some Kind of charity or handout!! Remember Congressional benefits? free healthcare, outrageous retirement packages, 67 paid holidays, three weeks paid vacation, unlimited paid sick days. Now that's welfare, and they have the nerve to call my social security retirement payments entitlements? They call Social Security and Medicare an entitlement even though most of us have been paying for It all our working lives, and now, when it's time for us to collect, the government is running out of money. Why did the government borrow from it in the first place? It was supposed to be in a locked box, not part of the general fund.
