  1. Go to reports, follow up, new/inactive. This is a date rangeable report. Should get ya what ya need.
  2. Nash On the EST/RO there is a slot middle right- "source". The dashed box to the right is where you can enter your promos and have them show up in reporting. Then just click the drop down and assign on the RO. Reports are under Management Tab-Referal-Inv Sources. This is from the EST/RO, not the scheduler. Logic is you wont really know why they came in till they are in front of your SA. For what it's worth I highly recommend one of Mitchell's training seminars. I have attended one and it is eye opening to say the least. Also if you drop into the manager forums there is a load of info there. And they also have training videos that are very helpful. HTH,Jeff
  3. Had a Corvair whne I was 19. Whne the news came out that they would roll over my mother had a fit. Ya know I tried to roll that car (I know young and dumb) but it just would'nt flip. The flex plate sheared off on the crankshaft. Prolly from doing reverse/low shifts with the "toggle switch" shifter.
  4. Yea but they aint makin no more dirt. I wish I owned my home, dont look forward to paying rent in old age.
  5. I did side work. But I did not do it at the shop. I lived 30 miles from the shop I worked at. Can honestly say I never took work from the shop. My side work was neighbors, friends, folks from church, etc.
  6. Good story Gonzo! My instructor in Tech school used what he called the KISS diagnostics program....Keep It Simple Stupid!!
  7. @ Immca..mad...nuttin to be mad about. And I do read/follow Elon. Have spoken to him personally as a matter of fact. Like I said I tried RP w/o success. Overpriced with no guarentees. I tend to be on the high side also. I feel tho that these type of sites "degrade" the proffessionalism (?) of our trade. Oh and I checked out your web site...couldn't find the estimator anywhere?
  8. To an end I agree Elon. I only send coupons to my regular, long standing customers. To that end they are not HUGE discounts. It is, in my mind, a way to keep regular customers loyal. I feel it also builds a "return" relationship. And the little I do give in coupons to my long standing customers is recovered in added sales. Would they still buy without the coupons? I believe so because I have a very low redemption rate. What I will not do is send mass mailers with multiple discounts to the unknown. No penny savers or the such.
  9. When I first started off in this trade I worked with and old timer that just hated the "new" technology. I can hear him say as cler as if he were standing here. "Son, one day the hoods will be welded shut and the cars will tell you when they need fixed."
  10. So Imcca you are willing to go to the low end of the quote if that is what the customer wants? As I said it wasn,t the estimate guide that drove me away from Repair Pal. And going off half cocked at the others in here dont warrant much respect. We all have our business models. If you want to cater to bottomers be my guest! Repair Pal DID NOT fulfill all they advertised!
  11. I used them for a year. Might as well thrown the money out the window! Never got the firts AARP referal and I am in Fl, the blue hair capitol of the world. Was supposed to be on some sort of tow referall. Never saw any of that either. Not a fan!
  12. Motor Age has been promoting an extended warranty program for indepedant shops. They have been promoting it as a customer retention tool.
  13. I just cheked the net..mobil one is second to factory fill for BMW. Mobil Tri Syn was first on list for MB. Just wanted to be sure I hadnt lost my mind.
  14. Thats odd...I have seen Benz or BMW that had a label underhood that recommended Mobil 1.
  15. In looking at the app it does no more that the Owner site that is avail thru Mitchell for my customers. And nothing is shared with a for profit company. If my cusyomers want to share that info it is up to them.
  16. Same here. had a kid call me and ask if I could tell him how to line up the timing chain on his 22R. I told him he could buy the book at a-z and it probably would have pictures. He asked if I might have the info and if I could "give" it to him. Nope system lease is 300 a month. If ya want prints it's 5 bucks a sheet. He was still talking about mother somethings when I hung up on him.
  17. Ya know the old sayin "Throw enough crap at a wall something will stick" !
  18. My last shop was roughly 2400 sq/ft. Run down and had no care for years. I fixed the fence, mowed the grass and in general cleaned up. The place had no office so I put a desk in one corner and called that my "office". I always found myself apologizing for the place not having a nice waiting area. One day a lady on her 70's was waiting and I am apologizing and she says" Honey it's ok, reminds me of the shop my dad used when I was little." Turns out the shop her dad used was the local "hangout". The fellas would gather around, drink coffee and shoot the breeze. No counters, fancy waiting rooms or such. I gotta say for a minute all the fancy just wasn't important anymore! Just my 2 cents.
  19. At one time carfax had partnered with Mitchell in order to use the vin decoder. As it were carfax was also gathering the customer data. I said no.
  20. I would suggest a visit to the local college. Maybe even posting something in the student union/hall as to what you are looking for. Colledge kids could always use a few extra bucks and want to get their work seen. Just a thought.
