  1. I used a local guy. I am a big fan of using someone that I can see face to face and we can work though things together. And I also didnt want to cookie cutter design.
  2. My web designer built his own and we are using that.
  3. -45 Today, and everyone is wondering why their cars won't start.

  4. Pretty much sorry about your luck better luck next time, some weeks are good and some are bad. I will pay him when he hands the ticket in and the job is done. If it take the customer a week to come pick up their 30 hour stupid 6.0 headgasket job then sucks to be me and I have to float that. But thats also where having strong financials helps.
  5. pay him when the job is done, as a tech myself thats what I would do to myself. you get paid when the job is done and ready to ship.
  6. My main supplier is Carquest, and they sure do try hard for me. Right now the manager and his son that work there have cancer, they are down to 2 people on the counter and 2 drivers. Even though they are 12 miles away from me it does matter if I make a 3500 dollar order and want 1 oil filter brought by ( not that I try to do that to them) but they MAKE SHIT HAPPEN. Napa on the other hand I am in between 2 stores each about 5 miles away and I am not a "high enough priority customer" for them to bring out a 2500 dollar block heater order.
  7. I took my wifes new/used truck to get detailed the other day and they did the same thing, when they said that they had to special order a mirror and it was going to be 2 weeks I politely declined and said that the GM dealer has one in stock for 120. How about you take 120 off my bill and we call it a day. They were cool with that and did a good job on the detail so I gave them my 2008 tacoma to get detailed and day later they call me and tell me it will start with the auto start but not with the key. The guy said he would have his guy look in to it but I didn't want any detailers poking around in there. I dont know how or why or what but the ignition switch came unplugged. Now the question is do I send the 3rd truck over?
  8. I like something like this http://www.lntstore.com/products/Coolant-Flush-Machine-by-QwikDraw-Super-Flush.html it works off of vacuum and works on any vehicle. But as of now I have a BG coolant flush machine and it works well. I like how it does not require air to operate and is very quite. My coolant flush it 169.95. Brake flush is 119.95 Diffs are 85 each and T-case is also 85
  9. Facebook and word of mouth through our military community has helped us greatly. We have also sponsored lots of local teams and such, this way people see the logo and it creates brand recognition. It may not bring them in RIGHT NOW but it will put the brand in the back of their head and when they need something and do a search on google or something like that there is a more likely chance they will choose that brand.
  10. So Right now I am in a 30x30 space with a small office and one lift. We do everything from engines and transmissions to power steering lines and alignments. At the end of July we will have an addition completed to our building that is going to be an additional 30x60 I was thinking 15x30 for office and 45x30 for 3 more bays making it a total of 4. Here is my conundrum, The guy that i use to take care of my transmission stuff is the tranny guy at the dodge dealer by day and moonlights as a Transmission rebuilder. This transmission rebuilder has asked me if I would rent a space to him in my addition. Now he is a hard working S.O.B. that wants to open his own shop one day but needs a stepping stone. He is also the kind of guy i would let run my business. So the question is do stick to my plan of a total of 4 bays and a larger office or 5 bays and a small office. And would you allow someone like that to work out of your shop. Also on average how much space do you give each of your technicians. I was thinking 2 techs to 3 bays would make for a nice work environment.
  11. 100-150 is standard for this 1 bay shop but we have maxed at 325 during busy season.
  12. After 375 days of running my lift I think the batteries are starting to get weak. I picked up crew cab long bed diesels today in a row and about 1/2 way up it sounded like the lift was straining. I guess I better pull the covers off and test the batteries.
  13. Lots of new vehicles are using a dry type that slides in to a hole in the block. Even our lawyer right now is just saying pay it, the lost time and court costs would be greater then the 2000 dollar claim. But I do agree with everything that you all are saying. we are trying to get the customer to bring the vehicle in for an inspection to verify the burn is in the location of the block heater and that the block heater was replaced like we are being billed for.
  14. I am sharing all that I know, and at my end there is also a 2000 dollar bill. They said that the block heater that we installed was "modified" and damaged the wiring harness. The customer has supplied us with the wiring harness and the block heater that the dealer "removed" from the vehicle. The block heater is not the one that we installed though its brand new. My lawyer guy is saying just pay the claim and be over with it, but to me its more a matter of principle.
  15. At the moment we are having a problem with a warranty concern that we were not allowed to take care of and the dealer did all of the work with out authorization from us and now we have a bill. There are 3 wires that have burns to the shielding one with 3in that has been pulled back and the other 2 have about 1/2in burn on the insulation. what is the proper TOYOTA way to repair this or is replacement of the whole wiring harness necessary.
  16. http://pearsonautoak.com/ WIP.... Bradley that is a very very good website. There is not a lot of info in the home page just a good call to action, people are not overwelmed with who you are and what you do. 99% of everyone knows who you are and what you do already there are there to schedule an appt, get your location, or get your contact information.
  17. Build my new building in the location that I want. What I want is almost 1.4 million including the land.
  18. So I have a question for you about Glass. Here it gets down to -60. Last year we pulled a customers car in and the shop thats heated to 65, so there is a 125 degree difference between inside and outside and the passenger window broke. That one I paid for, but today it happened again on a van the back window we noticed was broken when we went to open the hatch to get the tires out. Who is responsible and how do we prevent it from happening again?
  19. The part that I didn't like was how you're renting the building for 2.5 times what its worth. Talk to you dad about the whole situation is he really wants you to suceed and wants to keep his building rented needs to help instead of just jump ship.
  20. So I have this great customer named Sam, Last year Sam brought his Subaru in for head gaskets. Well when we went to push the car in after we got the heads back we (my help didnt know not to push in the middle of the hatch) dented the rear hatch. Sam was pretty cool about it and no big deal we got it fixed for him. Over the past year we have been Sam's auto repair center for anything he needed. Well I had to call Sam today and tell him that I ran his Thule cargo box in to the garage door and that I am working on getting him a replacement. I am a firm believer it doesn't matter what you do, its about how you own up to it and fix the problem, Sam just laughed and asked to make sure everything was okay with us.
  21. Lucky, we havent even gotten that much in North Pole Alaska yet, and its not even that cold here its another unusual winter.
  22. If you can afford it as of right now with no extra business go for it. I am having the same problem right now, the only problem is there isnt anywhere to move to.
