I have the Snap On Solus, it's a nice tool. You will need to buy different modules for the brands of cars you work on. Another nice scanner we have is the new wirelesss Launch. I do not have any first hand knowledge on the OTC or Mac Mentor.

Thers so many versions of launch what do you have and what do you prefer to use it for? What do you like to use the Solus for?And out of curiousiity can you pick a example of what the snap on would be missing compared to the launch on asian?

We have the Launch Diagun, its wireless, which is a real nice feature. It's great with Asian, most Euro, not too good with Volvo or Saab.

The Snap-On Solis is great with domestic, Asian and fairly good with Euro. The Solis does not do Volvo or Saab that well.

The scanner issue is a major problem these days. We are constantly looking at different scan tools.

Hopes this helps.

We have several scanners. We have the Bosch, OTC Evolution, OTC Genusys, Interro, OTC 4000 and our newest one is the Autoenginuity. The Autoenginuity is by far the less expensive, but you do have to purchase a laptop to go with it. We were going to go with Snap On's but decided on the Autoenginuity after talking to dealers that had both. Hope this helps.

How is the Autoenginuity with Euro, Volvo in particular.

Joe,

We got it the end of November. We paid for the enhanced with everthing including the Euro $2399.00 and a Toshiba lap top $349.99. Our European Tech says it does everything with Volvo control module. He has not used it yet for Trac control. We purchased it because our Bosch didn't seem to have everything for Euro cars. When I talked to Autoenginuity they said they get the same info that VW has. So far, we really like it. We were going to buy the Snap on Verus, but there was so much bad feed back on it. Also, the fellow that turned me on to the Autoenginuity had the Verus and was very unhappy. Hope this helps someone.

Yes, it helps me. Thanks. It is so confusing these days with all the scanners out there. Every bit of information is a great help to us all.

Here is the write up on that tool: Bosch Diagnostics - KTS 340

Allot of the Bosch scan tools are old Vetronix (makers of Tech2 and Mastertech). Bosch bought Vetronix.

I recently bought two scanners one a cornwell OTC Nemecises and a used snap on solus pro .The snapon is one update behind .9.2.It can record and has 3 diff options on how to store a recording SD flash or internally. It is a pain to use all the diff keys,Its makes it slow to use and I don't usally use it for a quick check. Also I noticed that alot of specal tests like activating sol.ect are hit or miss. And air bags is a joke unless you just what to check a code or clear a code, data list is the joke most the info in the few vechile I,ve checked was totally worthless. After my experiences I can give you this word of advice DO NOT put your hard earned money out unless you can get a in depth demo and a week test drive and pay attension to details.Good Luck

It always amazes me when I hear about a technician who quits one repair shop to go work at another shop for less money. I know you have heard of this too, and you’ve probably asked yourself, “Can this be true? And Why?” The answer rests within the culture of the company. More specifically, the boss, manager, or a toxic work environment literally pushed the technician out the door.
While money and benefits tend to attract people to a company, it won’t keep them there. When a technician begins to look over the fence for greener grass, that is usually a sign that something is wrong within the workplace. It also means that his or her heart is probably already gone. If the issue is not resolved, no amount of money will keep that technician for the long term. The heart is always the first to leave. The last thing that leaves is the technician’s toolbox.
Shop owners: Focus more on employee retention than acquisition. This is not to say that you should not be constantly recruiting. You should. What it does means is that once you hire someone, your job isn’t over, that’s when it begins. Get to know your technicians. Build strong relationships. Have frequent one-on-ones. Engage in meaningful conversation. Find what truly motivates your technicians. You may be surprised that while money is a motivator, it’s usually not the prime motivator.
One last thing; the cost of technician turnover can be financially devastating. It also affects shop morale. Do all you can to create a workplace where technicians feel they are respected, recognized, and know that their work contributes to the overall success of the company. This will lead to improved morale and team spirit. Remember, when you see a technician’s toolbox rolling out of the bay on its way to another shop, the heart was most likely gone long before that.

Do you find your shop doesn’t even come up on Google search like the big shops or chains and delivering great customer service is hard, especially when you’re busy or short staffed?
Do you find it hard to keep customers coming back? Is retaining customers a real struggle, never mind getting them to leave you a review on Google or begging them for new customer referrals.
If you’re tired of the car count rollercoaster, I’ve got a short (5 minute) loom video that shows you exactly how I can help you in less than 15 days… and it’s FREE! No, really!
