Great Tire Deal

I asked the customer if he had heard any noise on start up. He said he hard something on Saturday, but it went away pretty quickly so he didn't think anything of it.

 

He comes from DC where they have a rat problem in the city. I did notice some rat poison under the hood and asked him if he had put it there. Of course he had, so I asked him if he has a rat problem with his car before, " no and didn't want one so he was being proactive " I explained to him he was attracting them to the car since rat poison attracts rats that is how they get them to eat it.. He laughed said he never thought of that but he is going to stop doing it now. I asked if he wanted to keep his new pet of course once I showed him the pic he almost puked LOL.. Some people just have weak stomachs I guess :D .

 

Reminds me of a little old lady with a huge delta 88 like an early 80's model. She pulled up outside of my bay one morning with a huge buck with a nice rack stuck under the front of her car. She begged me to get it out she said she has been dragging it around all weekend. (the thing was pure road rash) . So I took a look and said I really didn't want to jack it up and pull it out . I told her I would try get it out for her, I got in her car and started to back it up to get it out from in front of my bay since I didn't want to drag the carcass around to the curb so the county could come pick it up I would rather take it out by the curb. Lo and behold as soon as I started backing up the deer came right out, great now I have to drag the thing. She looked at me and said "why didn't I think of that?" I asked her think of what she said backing the car up.. I said to her you never backed up once while driving the last two days, she replied no I always try to find a parking spot I can pull right out of , she said since she was a little lady and the car was so big it was hard for her to back up. :wacko: I think the rat today was noting compared to the nasty mess of a state that deer was in LOL.

      It always amazes me when I hear about a technician who quits one repair shop to go work at another shop for less money. I know you have heard of this too, and you’ve probably asked yourself, “Can this be true? And Why?” The answer rests within the culture of the company. More specifically, the boss, manager, or a toxic work environment literally pushed the technician out the door.
      While money and benefits tend to attract people to a company, it won’t keep them there. When a technician begins to look over the fence for greener grass, that is usually a sign that something is wrong within the workplace. It also means that his or her heart is probably already gone. If the issue is not resolved, no amount of money will keep that technician for the long term. The heart is always the first to leave. The last thing that leaves is the technician’s toolbox.
      Shop owners: Focus more on employee retention than acquisition. This is not to say that you should not be constantly recruiting. You should. What it does means is that once you hire someone, your job isn’t over, that’s when it begins. Get to know your technicians. Build strong relationships. Have frequent one-on-ones. Engage in meaningful conversation. Find what truly motivates your technicians. You may be surprised that while money is a motivator, it’s usually not the prime motivator.
      One last thing; the cost of technician turnover can be financially devastating. It also affects shop morale. Do all you can to create a workplace where technicians feel they are respected, recognized, and know that their work contributes to the overall success of the company. This will lead to improved morale and team spirit. Remember, when you see a technician’s toolbox rolling out of the bay on its way to another shop, the heart was most likely gone long before that.
