Hey guys, should I buy the R+W conference videos now for $1k or buy the all access pass and get videos but wait until Sept??? This is killing me, I watched the intro teaser and I have a feeling it'll be helpful. Spent $33k this month (usually my expenses are around $20k.....) so I don't have money to throw around.
Anyone that seen the vids vouch for the $1k download price?

Makes sense if you are 1) Planning on doing Volume and the associated systems for it (aka making low margins on tire sales OR having huge national accts with tire manufacturers) and 2) paying your techs near minimum wage.
I know #2 is a particular problem for the tire industry as a legislation pushes towards higher min wage.
Yes I am curious how the rising min wage will play out not only in our industry but everything else

Wow, some people are really cut out for this. I've been doing it in my 2 bay shop since 09, and I think it's time to close the doors.
I'm sorry to hear that as well. I checked out your website and FB page, hard to believe you're not making $10k gross/month. Looks like you got a lot to offer especially with a dyno and quite a following on your FB page. What's your car count like on a daily/weekly basis? I see that your location is outside of columbus so maybe the population isn't there.
I'm located in one of the fastest growing areas in the US and i think that has a lot to do with my growth.

Two books for anyone considering higher education or on sending a son or daughter for higher education are "The Student Loan Scam" and "Worthless". I highly recommend reading these before proceeding.
I dont need to read the books to know, I have personal experience. My B .S. degree is bs

Article is spot on. Frustrating for sure and DIYers are the cheaper ones that complain about the price too. In my experience anyway

I saw in a different post, someone had a tow truck. I have 2 shops now and I get calls for tows once or twice a week. Should I get a tow truck? What type should I get?
I've seen a few rollbacks on craigslist for about $8000. Older but all I want to spend right now, especially this being my first one. I see a one that isn't a rollback but a wheel lift type. Would I regret it? seems like rollbacks are much safter and versatile. I know little to nothing about towing so any advice would be helpful

I started my shop with just the money I had in my account and slowly grew over time. I had just the tools in my toolbox and no actual equipment. Start slow, don't try and buy everything at first. See what items you need and take the time to do an ROI report for every one. Shop has been open going on 8 years. Have 9 employees, three tow trucks. Just keep your head on your shoulders and THINK about every decision you make. Good luck!
Tow trucks! For some reason I never thought about that. How is it? Do you have a tow truck driver full time? ROI?

Today I visited 6 different automotive shops. NTB, Firestone, Meineke, Discount Tire, Jiffy Lube, and Mr Tire- they were all within 2 miles of my new shop.
It's amazing what they are willing to share with you. Meineke was a private owner since its a franchise. Everything else was corporate.
There's a difference when the owner is running the shop and hired help is.
Doesn't matter how much you pay, owner is friendlier.
Discount Tire will be here for a while. Excellent people and policies. Did you guys know that they patch tires for free??? Even if you didn't buy tires from them! Same thing with rotations! I asked them why????? and HOW??? they just laughed.

Hey guys, if you subscribe to Ratchet and Wrench, you know they hold a conference every year. Anyone going? Or anyone been? Worth it?
It'll set me back $1500 not to mention cost of missing work.

A girl called me yesterday, made an appt. for today and came to see me. So I listened to her as I'm going to change my processor by March 31( my self-imposed deadline.) She told me that she (the company she works for) will process ALL my credit cards for 1 %, and process ALL my debit cards (Pin #) for 0%. Will charge me $129 per month for machine, plus a $31 fee, and that's it. *** She did say that AMEX is 1.77%. Others are 1% and 0 for debit cards.
I'm going to call some of her referrals and check her out. She's local and works out of an office 30 mins. from my shop.
Have any of you EVER heard of a processor this cheap? Any recommendations of what I should look for or questions I should ask her??
Thank you in advance!!
Hi-Gear
$129 is really expensive for the lease and that is probably where they are making up the difference. I pay $29 each a month for my machines and they are new.
