Have some friends that are coming up from Long Island to stay with us, because they were told they should evacuate. They are close to the south shore. I think we'll just get some strong winds and some downed trees here. Hopefully power will not go out. My wife and I went to the grocery store yesterday and they were all out of water!!! Everyone is preparring I guess.

tie the car to a tree, board up the windows, and hold on... Cause here it Comes! It's hot and sunny here... not a thing going on. I think I'll stay right here for awhile. Hope everybody makes it thru A-OK! gonz

save a cold one for me... It's hot here... I could use one right about now... ROFL :) :) :)

It's 5:00pm...nothing yet, just a little rain, no huricane yet. But I am prepared, Generator is all gased up, got food and water and cold beer. Now we wait!

This is one of those times I am glad to live 500 miles from the coast. The only thing we worry about here is the ocassional tornado :)

High and dry on the Passaic River in Little Falls but many around me are not. Even the President is coming to Paterson on Sunday. This area has really taken a beating.

I heard about the President coming to Patterson on the news. Allot of places got hit bad that I thought would not be as bad as let's say coastal Long Island. Even upstate NY around Hunter Mountain got hit hard.

      It always amazes me when I hear about a technician who quits one repair shop to go work at another shop for less money. I know you have heard of this too, and you’ve probably asked yourself, “Can this be true? And Why?” The answer rests within the culture of the company. More specifically, the boss, manager, or a toxic work environment literally pushed the technician out the door.
      While money and benefits tend to attract people to a company, it won’t keep them there. When a technician begins to look over the fence for greener grass, that is usually a sign that something is wrong within the workplace. It also means that his or her heart is probably already gone. If the issue is not resolved, no amount of money will keep that technician for the long term. The heart is always the first to leave. The last thing that leaves is the technician’s toolbox.
      Shop owners: Focus more on employee retention than acquisition. This is not to say that you should not be constantly recruiting. You should. What it does means is that once you hire someone, your job isn’t over, that’s when it begins. Get to know your technicians. Build strong relationships. Have frequent one-on-ones. Engage in meaningful conversation. Find what truly motivates your technicians. You may be surprised that while money is a motivator, it’s usually not the prime motivator.
      One last thing; the cost of technician turnover can be financially devastating. It also affects shop morale. Do all you can to create a workplace where technicians feel they are respected, recognized, and know that their work contributes to the overall success of the company. This will lead to improved morale and team spirit. Remember, when you see a technician’s toolbox rolling out of the bay on its way to another shop, the heart was most likely gone long before that.

      Often times we can get caught up in the minutia of details and analysis.
      If we are not careful - it can lead to assumptions and wrong conclusions.
      As Hunt says, “Numbers do not lie, but they do not tell the whole story.”
      Getting the whole story inevitably involves communication - and it isn’t always comfortable for people to pick up a phone to get it.
      While the takeaway for today’s episode is in the title, it expands as you listen to Hunt and Craig explore a range of topics from talking to clients, employees, and even family.
