We at AutoShopOwner.com want to express our condolences to the families of the 13 soldiers who died this past Thursday at Fort Hood and offer our prayers for those wounded and hope for a speedy recovery. We owe a great debt to the military and to the heroes who fight for our freedom.
Well said. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

An angry customer will tell 10 people....that's the rule I think, a happy customer will tell 2. What's the winshield worth to you?
I probably would not have fixed it for a customer that I think will give me a headache every time. But if it is someone local and I feel she will return.. I might have had it done.
I think you need to weigh it out. I'm curious what you did.

Not only was Cash for Clunkers a bad idea and ineffective but the Tire Tariff that this administration signed is also another very bad idea in my humble opinion:

I did hear from a friend that works at an STS Tire, that he is able to sell a more name brand tire since the chinese tire prices went up.

The Marines Show You How ....There's a 'message' in this video. You might want to view it ASAP as it's not likely to last very long on YouTube
No doubt that Bush was a better war time Pres. The video below was in the Youtube related videos. I had to post it..

That's insane...he even says:
Mr. Panarin posits, in brief, that mass immigration, economic decline, and moral degradation will trigger a civil war next fall and the collapse of the dollar. Around the end of June 2010, or early July, he says, the U.S. will break into six pieces -- with Alaska reverting to Russian control.

Just wanted to let everyone know that we offer Nitrogen machines and related supplies, as well as a host of other service support product to the shops at factory direct prices. Brake lubricants and noise treatments, A/C treatments, EVAP machines, carbide lathe bits, drain plugs, flexhones, road hazard polices and much more is available. Our family has been in the automotive supply and service field for over 40 years and have always worked direct with the shop owners, since we too have owned shops and experienced how difficult it is to make them profitable. We additionally offer free tech support on a variety of services, to help bring techs the most up to date technologies and procedures. Thanks, we look forward to being of service to your and your techs. Sincerely, Gary www. GWRauto .com
Is there a huge calling for Nitrogen in tires?

Thanks for the concern, nice to know there are people out there like you.
Starting our 2nd location has been tougher that I thought. I have no regrets and business is ok. It's just that I need to hone my skills better, revise my systems and re-work old policies.
These are the growing pains of expanding. If it were easy, everyone would do it!
yeah but it'll all pay off in the end.

What do you guys think about this Cash for clunkers Law?
Some articles to read about it:
http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/artic...SbAMcv4EqdBQjiw
In a nutshell, if you are not familiar with this:
Under the House bill, car owners could get a voucher worth $3,500 if they traded in a vehicle getting 18 miles per gallon or less for one getting at least 22 miles per gallon. The value of the voucher would grow to $4,500 if the mileage of the new car is 10 mpg higher than the old vehicle. The miles per gallon figures are listed on the window sticker. Owners of sport utility vehicles, pickup trucks or minivans that get 18 mpg or less could receive a voucher for $3,500 if their new truck or SUV is at least 2 mpg higher than their old vehicle. The voucher would increase to $4,500 if the mileage of the new truck or SUV is at least 5 mpg higher than the older vehicle. Consumers could also receive vouchers for leased vehicles.

No sorry
No problem....was just curious.

Do any of you use Identifix? Is so for how long? How useful has it been to you? Is it worth the cost? We use to use Identifix but got away from them about four years ago when we changed service manager. Now we have a new tech who swares by Identifix so we are looking at them again.
We use www.carquestdirecthit.com which is powered by identifix. We live by it and use it everyday.

Anyone get their hands on one of these yet? We have a Genesys, but this thing is supposed to be the latest and greatest:

It is getting touch out there. Just be careful and not get into a price war. Also, it may hard to raise prices once the economy comes around. Instead of heavy discounting we are giving customers options. Talk with your customer; see what their budget is.
I had a customer the other tell me that my 90k service was $100 more than the dealer. When we compared the dealer 90k to mine, the dealer wasn’t going to do all the things we were going to. But, I listened and gave the customer the option to do those service items only, so as not to loose the job.
Also offer value packages instead of discounting. We have a mid-winter promo for $69.95, which includes an oil change, tire rotation, BG fuel and oil additive and a safety check. It works well, the customer gets a lot of benefit, feels good and we maintain our profit margins.
My fear is that we will feed into the fear of the consumers.
Were you cheaper than the dealer when you went with option #2?

Who here sends post card reminders or any other time of mailings. Maybe oil change reminders, or inspection reminders...
Do you do it on your own, have an outside company do it? What's your process and how successful are you at it.

The Health Bill Passes the House
in Non-Automotive Discussions
Posted
It's BS. They're shoving this thing down everyone's throats!!! Below are some bullet points I just read online:
The key questions you need answered on health care:
Who's covered? About 96% of U.S. citizens and legal residents younger than 65.
Cost? $894 billion to $1.2 trillion over 10 years.
Who pays? Higher income taxes on couples earning more than $1 million a year and singles making more than $500,000, Medicare and Medicaid cuts and savings.
Must have? Those earning above $18,700 (couples) or $9,350 (singles) must have insurance or pay a 2.5% penalty on income.
Any help? Individuals and families with annual income up to 400% of poverty level, or $88,000 for a family of four, would get sliding-scale subsidies starting in 2013.
If I have insurance? Private, employer-subsidized plans remain the backbone of the system. Mandates on employers to provide coverage will encourage them to keep providing it.
Who can be denied? Insurance companies cannot deny coverage or charge higher premiums based on preexisting conditions. No higher premiums for gender. Limits on higher premiums based on age. Children could stay on parents' plans until age 27.
Any new options? Beginning in 2013, a new Health Insurance Exchange would be open to individuals with no or inadequate coverage and to small employers. A new government-run plan would be set up and run by the Health and Human Services secretary, offering levels of benefits covering 70% to 95% of health care expenses.
Help for seniors? The bill closes Medicare's prescription drug "doughnut hole” - a $3,454 coverage gap under which seniors have to pay for medicine totally from their own pocket.
Business impact? Employers with payrolls above $500,000 must provide insurance for employees or pay a penalty.
Small-business impact? Those with 10 or fewer workers would get tax credits to help them provide coverage.
