Any info will be greatly appreciated. And if you have any good suggestions about other vendor please let me know. I've demoed: alldatamanage MaxxTraxx Thanks

Automotive Shop Management Software
tasr replied to Memphis Rob's topic in Management Software, Web Sites & Internet
I'm currently demoing Maxx Traxx. Seem very powerfull even includes the accounting module with the highest tier. They charge a monthly subscription and an initial setup fee. -
I'm looking at renting a location to open a new shop and the owners are asking me to carry 2 million general aggregate, 1 million per occurence. 100,000 fire damage liability and 5000 medical. In speaking to a few agent they seem to think it's a bit high. Can ya'll post what you typically carry on your shop? Thanks!

Hi All, I'd like to thank everyone who has helped answer so many questions recently. I'm in the process of finalizing the opening of our Auto Repair shop and I got a call from a CPA offering their services. Basically their offering is a subsription type service that allows me to contact them with any questions etc and they help file taxes each year etc etc. However being new to this I would appreciate any input on how you all manage the finances of your business. I was hoping quickbooks would be sufficient for me but apparently they recomend proffesional help. Our shop consists of 2 full time mechanics and myself to manage and run the whole thing as well as the initial service advisor.

Entry Level Techs – Educated but no experience
tasr replied to Joe Marconi's topic in Human Resources, Employees
Wow Jeff, I'm in the last stages of opening up my own shop and your experience has me wondering if this has been the experience of most techs? I've done my research and it seems your experience is not typical. Anyone chime in.- 9 replies

I'm looking at opening an auto repair shop with a partner who is the mechanic and possibly another mechanic. I will be the sole investor in the venture never before been in the auto rapair shop business. I will most likely manage the whole thing. I need lots of help. How are mechanics paid? How do I pay myself and recoup my investment? Shop management software? Looked at MaxxTraxx, Alldatapro. What types of insurance must I carry? I've found a nice place with three bays to rent but will need to install lifts. Should I shop used or new? Etc etc etc. Thanks for any help you can offer.
