  1. Seems like lately we have been working out a lot of estimates without getting the job. Sometimes i feel like were wasting a lot of time to sit down and work these out.

Are we getting to detailed when doing this? I have learned to try and secure a appointment before giving a estimate, but that does not seem to work either. I'm not looking to land all the Customer's that call, but some would be nice!! More and more we are seeing people want to supply their own parts. In the past we never did this. Is it time to start thinking about changing how a CSP (customer supplied part) job is handled?

    Looking for any thoughts

    Thanks Jim Quinn

  2. Wanted to know how shops are handling all the different types, weights, and specs on the current oils?

The problem I have is that we follow what the manufacture recommends (pain sometimes) but I feel it is the right thing to do. This becomes and issue when for the first few services the customer was bringing to the Dealer, so they can get the proper care. Come to find out they were using whatever was the cheapest. I have had a 2012 Acura and a 2013 Subaru which both call for very specific oil, which both cars were getting straight up conventional oil. The problem becomes now trying to explain on the third or fourth service why it’s so expensive compared to what the dealer was charging. (They should know what the car takes) I have called a few in our area, and have been told we use whatever we have in bulk! WHATS THE DEAL WITH THAT

Wanted to know how shops are handling all the different types, weights, and specs on the current oils?

  3. Joe,

We have been having the same issues on multiple make autos and trucks! I have found the groove on the rear rotors does not seem to be deep enough to accommodate the backing plate. We only buy premium rotors and still have this issue. After the 3rd DO OVER (waste of time trying to find issue) we now have to source from the OE. I have completely stopped using two well named aftermarkets, just because I cannot afford to keep doing the jobs over again!! Hope someone is reading this Forum..

  4. State of NJ gearing up for the end of Parsons contract may be using Ezpass for emmission inspection!

ERG is going to look at all possibilities for the Next Generation Emissions Inspection Program. The options include:

1). Keep the present hybrid system we have now, utilizing both Central Inspection Facilities (CIFs) and Private Inspection Facilities (PIFs).

2). Move to a PIF ONLY system and eliminate CIFs, and sell the real estate that the CIFs presently occupy.

3). Move to a CIF only system and eliminate PIFs, (which is extremely unlikely).

4). Begin moving to ELECTRONIC style emissions testing that could be performed as easily as motorists driving thru EZ Pass. This could include emissions kiosks where motorists hook up to a computer and perform their own emissions test.

Included is a link to a survey for the new program!
